About Us
Welcome to Mazingira Greens Party, formerly known as the Liberal Party of Kenya (LPK). We are a Kenyan green party dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability, social justice, and inclusive governance. With a rich history in Kenya's political landscape since the late 1990s, our party has been at the forefront of advocating for a greener and fairer future.

The Origin : LPK and Wangari Maathai's Candidacy
In the 1997 Kenyan General Elections, the LPK gained recognition by fielding Wangari Maathai as a presidential candidate, who later became a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Although her candidacy was considered minor, her courageous stand for environmental conservation and peace resonated with many. While Maathai didn't secure a parliamentary seat, her influence and commitment to our party's core values left a lasting impact.

Coalitions and Parliamentary Representation
In 2002, under Maathai's leadership, our party joined the victorious NARC coalition, solidifying our dedication to serving the people of Kenya. Maathai herself secured a parliamentary seat, establishing our presence and the importance of our values within the political landscape.

Diverse Engagement
In the subsequent 2007 Kenyan general election, Mazingira Greens Party played a role in the Party of National Unity led by President Mwai Kibaki. While being part of the coalition, we also fielded our own candidates, showcasing our commitment to independent representation and diverse political engagement. We celebrated a significant victory when Silas Muriuki, our party candidate, won a parliamentary seat, demonstrating our potential to bring positive change.
